Answered plainly, because the shape of a project is usually decided before anyone opens an editor.
Magento 2 and Shopify are the core of the work: storefront and theme builds, custom extensions and app logic, checkout and conversion paths, catalogue and inventory structure, and the payment and shipping integrations behind them. Alongside that I take on performance tuning, technical SEO, security hardening, platform patching, and production debugging on stores that are already live.
It depends on where the complexity sits. Magento 2 earns its overhead when the catalogue, pricing rules, B2B logic, or ERP integration are genuinely complicated and you need control over the data model. Shopify and Shopify Plus win when speed to market, operational simplicity, and a managed checkout matter more than deep customisation. I work across both — Hyva, Luma, Breeze, Liquid, GraphQL, and REST — so the recommendation is not a defence of whichever platform I happen to know.
Yes. Migrations, redesign rollouts, and replatforming are regular work, including the parts people underestimate: URL and redirect mapping so search rankings survive the move, catalogue and customer data integrity, and keeping the old system running until the new one is genuinely ready.
Regularly. ERP modules, inventory management systems, HRM tools, reporting dashboards, role-based admin interfaces, and internal workflow applications — usually for teams replacing spreadsheets or manual process. On the marketing side, CMS-led sites, landing pages, and lead-generation structures built in WordPress, Laravel, Vue, React, or Next.js.
Part of the build. Crawlability, content hierarchy, internal linking, structured JSON-LD data, image handling, Core Web Vitals, and rendering performance are decided while the architecture is still soft. Retrofitting them onto a finished site costs more and works less well, which is why they are treated as build quality here rather than a phase-two invoice.
As a standing responsibility, not an add-on. That covers threat modeling, vulnerability scanning, dependency and patch management, access control, session and payload validation, rate limiting, safer admin patterns, and secure CI/CD and code-review practice. Where compliance matters, I work to ISO 27001 and GDPR expectations.
Yes — a good share of the work is inherited systems rather than greenfield builds. That includes joining an existing team, taking over a codebase someone else wrote, and retained support after launch. Handover is treated as a deliverable: documentation, editing setups a non-developer can actually use, and code written to be read by whoever inherits it next.
